Dave Ramsey Lawsuit: Fired Over Pregnancy and COVID Protocols?

First of all, for those who know little to nothing about this Dave Ramsey personality, well, he is this rich guy who is known for giving out advice, writing books, and is famous for his advice on ditching credit cards because they’re kinda a financial trap, according to him. Since you’re here today, that means you already know that, but we’ll add to that another fact, which is that he actually is the owner of the  Ramsey Solutions company, which used to be called Lampo Group. It is down there in Tennessee. The thing about this business of his is that it is a super in-your-face Christian vibe, or at least that’s how it seems on the surface. And working within his company are some employees who have filed some cases against this company and the owner, and that’s why we’re talking about this Dave Ramsey Lawsuit thing. So, let’s just get to the details of it all.

Dave Ramsey

The Lawsuit Over Pregnancy at Ramsey Solutions

In 2020, an employee named Caitlin O’Connor got fired from Ramsey Solutions for being pregnant. Yep, just being pregnant! It was never her performance; she just wasn’t married, and that went against the code of conduct under the company’s internal policy of “righteous living.”

Caitlin pushed back, saying that it wasn’t a professional reason for being fired but that she was let go because she did not meet a class of personal belief standards that the company had. A federal judge later held that she indeed had enough grounds to proceed with her lawsuit. So the case is now pending and indeed on an active track.

Then There’s This Whole COVID Thing

Brad Amos, yet another ex-employee, joined the Ramsey Solutions team in 2021. When public health and safety became front and center, Brad was an advocate of masks and of sticking to CDC guidelines in general. Yet Ramsey Solutions took the opposite position, being pro-in-person work and leaning into their “faith over fear” mantra.

Well, all this matter came to light because sure enough, Brad did not agree with that stance; rather, Brad felt that his Christian values demanded caution and the protection of the other party involved. When Brad disagreed with the company’s approach, he was terminated. He filed a religious discrimination suit that was dismissed in the first instance and later reinstated. The said suit is currently set for trial in July 2025.

According to other sources, Ramsey’s legal team is attempting to prevent Dave Ramsey from having to testify, on the grounds that it might interfere with his radio commitments.

Oh, and Don’t Forget the LGBTQ Case

In 2022, the company was sued by a former employee, who claimed she was terminated following her coming out as gay. That case is settled. While no wrongdoing was admitted, the settlement hints at their willingness to keep the matter quiet and without much attention.

And There’s a Class Action Lawsuit Too

That is where another layer starts. A group of listeners who followed the financial advice of Dave Ramsey are now suing the company he endorsed in his radio show. They are claiming misrepresentation and damage to their finances. This lawsuit has gone class-wide.

Ramsey Solutions is attempting to send this cause for arbitration, which would keep the matter private. It is to say that they would rather keep this behind closed doors than have the debate in open court.
