What Exactly Is Native?
Native is a personal care items company that sells shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body wash, lotion, and even toothpaste. They were becoming super popular because they said and claimed “natural and clean,” thus drawing people seeking healthier alternative products to bigger celebrity brands. A few customers do not even realize that Native is owned by Procter and Gamble, which is also piloting companies selling Tide and Pampers.
How Did The Lawsuit Talk Begin?
PFAS chemicals have been around for about a century or so and enter into just about every product, from nonstick cookware to waterproof clothing. The problem is that, really, these substances do not readily break down, at least, that is why they are called forever chemicals. They have been associated with several health issues, including an elevation of cholesterol levels, cancer, and pregnancy complications.
For Native, the controversy was still heating up in 2023, with chatter about the possibility of those lawsuits now being spread around the network. Then, some outlets reported in April 2024 that some law firms were looking into allegations that Native had misled consumers with claims of “clean” and “naturally derived.” In April 2025, complaints of hair thinning and loss surfaced after Native shampoos were used, putting the whole issue in the light.
PFAS In Native Products
The main claim against Native is that PFAS might be present in their products: shampoos, deodorants, even others. This directly clashes with the notion of marketing them as a clean brand. The Coconut & Vanilla or perhaps Cucumber & Mint shampoos are being thrown around with complaints.
Currently, no class action suit has officially been declared yet, and no settlement offer has been made. Nevertheless, a number of lawyers actively investigate the claims.
Hair Loss Complaints
In April 2025, a TikTok user went viral after saying Native shampoo damaged her curly hair and thinned it. She also added that if they ever tried to file a lawsuit, she would join it. Eventually, more and more people from TikTok and Reddit started to share their stories about how their hair began thinning after they switched to Native.
Until now, there has been no scientific evidence that Native shampoo causes hair loss. However, when so many people regard the same experience with suspicion, the concern escalates and places more pressure on the inquiry.
Current Legal Status
It so happens that Native has no lawsuits filed against it as of 2025; it is still under investigation, which means lawyers are collecting evidence to determine whether they can carry forward with a case. The PFAS issue appears to be the strongest point, while hair loss complaints add to the weight of the matter.
If the lawsuit actually goes through, Native could be looking at some serious changes: they would have to reformulate ingredients, maybe have to change their product labels, or perhaps even have to put some settlements in place for the customers. Since Native is a subsidiary of P&G, other clean brands that are under similar claims could also be jeopardized because of it.
